Today's big day for me as a Miami Heat fan.
There is a lot of speculation surrounding the Heat's #2 overall pick and what they are going to do with it. Every analyst says to take Michael Beasley, but I've been around Pat Riley enough to know that by the way he's acting now he wants to be good NEXT year, and dealing away Michael Beasley would bring in players that could help fill positions of need and allow us to still pick up a solid point guard in the draft like an OJ Mayo or Jerryd Bayless.
By no means am I an OJ Mayo fan, and I have my doubts about his ability to play point guard as a distributor. Bayless intrigues me more as he is more athletic and can D up a little more. Beasley is just too small to play power foward and I'd love him at the 3 but Shawn Marion is there, but I have a feeling that a Wade, Marion, Beasley lineup would not be bad. Hopefully Elton Brand opts out of his last year of his contract and comes to play for us.
I love Pat Riley and what he's doing though. As he as shown before, he can make the Heat a contender in a second (see Tim Hardaway, Jamal Mashburn, and Alonzo Mourning trades; then lookup the Shaq trade and the signings of Antoine Walker and Gary Payton)
As for what I think the Heat should do, trade it to Memphis and get the #5 pick, Mike Miller, and one of their point guards, Mike Conley or Kyle Lowry. If its Lowry, they take Mark Blount also, and we draft Jerryd Bayless.
Miami sports will be back in the picture once again, with geniuses at the controls of every team.
Pat Riley, Bill Parcells, and Larry Beinfest (Marlins GM, gotta admit he knows what the heck he's doign with that payroll)
